STATEMENT
From the strength of abstraction—understood in its generative and destructive power over form—several of my works draw compositions that reference certain formal aspects of modern architecture and design, in combination and contrast with a diversity of shapes and materialities. Presented as installations, objects, or sculptural ensembles, some of them may suggest an accessory utility which, when combined with their specific spatial arrangement, can evoke or simulate interiors, atmospheres, or potentially inhabitable spaces.
Functional components, together with organic and industrial elements, unfold in the creation of pieces in which design plays a central role that goes beyond the object's utilitarian function.
Bordering the threshold between autonomously conceived art and applied/functional forms, the works address and explore this ambiguous dialectic through constructive dynamics and the perceptual potentiality of the material.
These deliberate associations—which may be perceived as antagonistic—explore interstitial zones, spaces of transition between objects, materials and design, as a form of expression aimed at filling the support of the artistic object with meaning.
I like to think that these sets of bodies/works operate with a certain kind of intrinsic infrastructure, enabling an infinite network of relationships.
“Just as in the human being, in whose internal organism we find a multitude of circulatory subsystems with specific functions yet never dissociated from the global functioning of the organism, so do we find the entire natural world traversed by all these types of subsystems, some larger, some smaller, but closely related to one another. Each one performs a specific task. Every healthy lake, every wetland, constitutes a living unit of functions and, at the same time, an organ of the landscape in which it is located, and which is in turn integrated as a member of an even larger organism.”
— Theodor Schwenk, “Sensitive Chaos”
